Yup, still here at Camp Blanding!!! We finished up the big retreat (186 gals) and we’ve moved over to our mini-retreat location. Gloria, Vicky (Gloria’s twin sister), Paula and myself are at The Quarters until Friday. Wynette and Diane, who work right on base, will join us at night for some fun and maybe even some sewing. It really is hard to sew when you are laughing so hard that tears are rolling down your face!!!!
So, let me catch you up a bit. Paula arrived safely from Utah on Sunday night. We’ve both been busy sewing on some new quilt designs using some of Paula’s new collections. These will be new patterns for Spring Market and then, of course, kits on our website!!! We don’t have exact dates on the fabric releases, but they will be in your quilt shops someday soon. I’ll try to keep you updated!! Now for some pictures:
Paula is working on these beautiful blocks and they will feature her new collection from Marcus Fabrics, Summit Rose!! She’s finished 5 blocks, but had to stop – we need more fabric from her house!!! Don’t you just love them!!!
Before we left the armory room, our dear friend Diane finished her version of James River Red. This was her project for the 5 day retreat AND SHE FINISHED IT!!!!! She’s thinking about a striped border, but there’s always time to add that. Congratulations Diane on a job well done!!!!
We left the armory by 4 PM yesterday and within an hour we had our sewing room at the Quarters all set up and ready to go for some intense sewing. It really is amazing what you can accomplish when you have the time to just concentrate. We’ve even organized an exchange for all of us – 288 Snowball blocks due at our next retreat in September. I love a deadline!!!!
We’ve got a great set-up here – 6 sewing machines, about 8 tables, a big screen tv and a full kitchen. Paula is making her great chicken salad for lunch and someone is going to make spaghetti for dinner (with Texas Toast and a nice salad to round it out!!!). We each brought our 2 favorite movies with us for some added entertainment. Enjoying “Cinderella Man” (a Paula Barnes favorite) right now. Oh and we have snacks!!!
Just one last picture for you: these are the sandhill cranes that have become the mascots for Camp Blanding. They hang out around the armory and are amazingly tame. All the people coming and going don’t seem to bother him at all. They can be incredibly noisy too!!
Well, the sewing machine is calling my name. I could finish the Tavern Blues quilt today – my goal!!!
Until next time, happy quilting!!
